Everyone knew Warner Brothers was looking for a new home for their DC toy license once Mattel was done with it. It was announced a few weeks back that some of the DC licenses were heading over to Spin Master. Most of those were role playing and other games. At the time, no one knew where the action figures were headed, but we do now. No one, me included, saw McFarlane toys swinging for the fences and coming out on top.
Starting in early 2020 you can expect to see McFarlane figures hitting the shelves of big boxes across the country. In a way I am excited to see someone else making DC figures. But, McFarlane is more geared toward collectors and less actual action figures that kids play with. I am curious to see how they plan to pull off both. From the sound of the press release below, McFarlane will basically be taking over and expanding the DC Multiverse brand. You can read the whole press release below. What are your thoughts on DC heading over to McFarlane Toys?
“This partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products and DC will be great fun for my company, and a chance to deliver products that millions of fans of the DC brand have been asking for,” said Todd McFarlane, Owner and CEO of McFarlane Toys. “The DC universe has captivated the world and to be able to play in that ‘sandbox’ now makes me feel like a kid all over again. I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.”
The DC Multiverse collector figures and related toys will be available at major retail locations beginning in 2020.
