Inside the Toy Box: Issue Twelve

Inside the Toy Box sums up the past week’s toy news, top sellers, trends, pre-orders and any other great happenings in the world of toys and pop culture.  Be sure to scroll down and check out the sales at the bottom.

Sorry I have been MIA, I spent the Halloween weekend in LA trick or treating with some friends and family.  I am a horrible Dad and didn’t take any decent photos but my kids were Poison Ivy, Shark Boy (from Sharkboy and Lavagirl), the Rainbow Fairy (from some Tinkerbell movie), and Tinkerbell.  Their little friend Brooklyn also decided to jump in the photo as Minnie Mouse.  Kudos to my wife and mother-in-law for making the costumes.

I hope everyone else had a fun and safe Halloween.  I am sure I am not the only one who got sick “inspecting” their children’s candy.

At the stroke of midnight after Halloween, stores already started gearing up for Christmas.  It’s like Thanksgiving (an important holiday for me) is slowly being forgotten.

With the Holidays in mind, some pretty good stuff went up for pre-order or came in stock.  Bif Bang Pow! does really nice work with the retro 3 3/4-inch figures that everyone loves.  The advantage they have over others, like Reaction, is that their unique packaging turns into a diorama to recreate your favorite scenes.   The Big Bang Theory series 1 is in stock and doing well.  There are also different variations of Sheldon out there too.

Speaking of Reaction, the cult classic movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show,  about transvestites from Transexual, Transylvania gets the ReAction treatment.

I am really digging this 12-inch figure of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead from Threezero.  The head sculpt is just amazing and, if done right, I am also a fan of cloth clothes on figures.

Its also good to see someone beside McFarlane making Walking Dead figures.  Series 8, which includes fan favorite Dale, is hitting shelves as we speak.  I think the Rick count for the series (with exclusives) is up to 8 now.  Series 9 is still a few months out but but I saw the new Daryl figure at Walgreens the other day.  For the price and the fact they are hand painted (I believe) these are still great figures to collect.  Heck, there are already custom “zombie” Glenn figures out there going to good money.  Regular Glenn figures were part of series 5 and might be worth keeping an eye.

The Peanuts Movie hits theatres this weekend as well as the latest Bond flick, Spectre.  These two franchises always have a good following so there merchandise is always worth checking out.  Jim Henson’s The Muppets also have some figures coming out as well.

G.I. Joe POPS! are available for pre-order and it looks like they might make it in time for Christmas. owns the exclusive first release and they have them in stock right now.  They also are the only place to snag the Hooded Cobra Commander.  You can pre-order and save a few bucks if you aren’t in a hurry.

You don’t see Batman: The Animated Series figures on the shelves too often.  That’s because everyone loves them.  It looks like there is a good selection in stock right now.  These won’t last long with Christmas right around the corner.  The Batmobile has been spotted at my LCS and is always in and out of stock fast.  If that is one anyone’s wish list it wouldn’t hurt to get it pre-ordered.

Next time you head out to Walgreens be on the look out for their latest exclusive, The First Order Riot Gear Stormtrooper POP!.  Even if you aren’t a collector these would make a great flip.

That’s all for this week.  Oh yeah, Blake and Gwen are dating.
