It is hard to argue that Bob Ross is a pop culture icon. In a perfect example of “you don’t know what you have until it’s gone”, Bob Ross has become more of a celebrity after his death then when he was alive. As a younger kid, I was introduced to The Joy of Painting on PBS at my grandparent’s house. It was him and Mark Kistler’s Secret City that helped me realize my love for art and drawing. His calm kind demeanor was like watching Mr. Rogers with a paint brush. Unfortunately, after battling Lymphoma Bob Ross passed away in 1995. However, in recent years, there as seemed to be a Bob Ross renaissance. His likeness has been popping up on everything from the obvious paint sets to the odd, but cool, Bob Ross Chia Pet. Even the ever popular Deadpool sometimes cosplays as him. NECA, as always, seemed to read fan’s minds and decided to add a Bob Ross figure to their 8-inch clothed line. After he was revealed, he quickly became the figure I never knew I needed.
Bob is just hitting shelves at Target for $30.99. In my opinion, that’s a pretty good deal for what you get. Not only do you get an awesome looking Bob Ross figure, you also get a paint palette, 2 brushes, a palette knife, a large easel, and painting. The painting appears to be ‘Meadow Lake’ from episode 1 from season 2 of The Joy of Painting.
Fun fact: Ross painted three versions of almost every painting featured on his show. The first was painted prior to taping, and sat on an easel, off-camera, during filming, where Ross used it as a reference to create the second copy—the one viewers actually watched him paint. After filming the episode, Ross painted a more detailed version for inclusion in his instructional books.
Bob comes dressed in his “timeless look” of jeans and button down shirt. The head sculpt and paint translate his calm demeanor to figure form perfectly. The articulation is good and there is no display stand needed with this one. Not sure the extent of his action poses as he’s always just standing there painting.
Overall this is another well done figure from NECA. I wasn’t always a fan of clothed action figures but they have slowly been changing my mind. NECA did an awesome job with this one and if Bob Ross was still around I am sure he would agree.
Bob Ross is currently hitting shelves at Target and is in stock at some online retailers. You can check out a few links below.

Oh I freakin’ love it. It even has his Almighty Easel. I’m not much of an action figure afficionado anymore but I kinda need him for my office.
