Inside the Toy Box: Issue Nineteen

Inside the Toy Box sums up the past week’s toy news, top sellers, trends, pre-orders and any other great happenings in the world of toys and pop culture.

As usual there is a lot to cover so grab a beer, or what ever you drink to pass the time.  We will just try breaking it up into categories so nothing gets missed.

Star Wars has made over $700 million already in the toy market.  If you are a fan or completionist, its a good idea to pre-order your Black Series.  A good example is Wave 3.  It came in and out of stock in one day at Entertainment Earth, with the whole shipment being allocated to pre-orders.  I hear some of the pre-orders didn’t even get filled.  Sure you can find them on the pegs at big boxes but some figures are harder to find than others.  We also have some bad news regarding Wave 4.  It has been pushed back to summer release.  We know that Kylo Ren is the overarching bad guy for this new trilogy, and Rey is our heroine.  This means we’ll be seeing a lot more of each of them in years to come.   Keep in mind there’s currently no other wave available that contains both Kylo Ren, Rey, AND General Hux together.

Another thing to look at are the Force FX Lightsabers.  These are always hard to come by and a solid investment for Star Wars collectors.  If you haven’t heard, Darth Vader has been confirmed to be in Rogue One and people will be wanting his lightsaber.  Wave 2 also gives you Luke’s, which we just saw in The Force Awakens.

Arkham Knight fans will be glad to hear about some new figures coming soon.  We get a second version of Harley Quinn in her classic red and black. Other new comer villains include Poison Ivy and the Joker, who is ready to hit the beach.  There is also a new 3-pack featuring Batman and a pair of thugs.

A new Suicide Squad trailer dropped and we got some pics of some pretty sweet statues coming out.  They will be made by DC Collectibles and cost $150 each, well worth it in my opinion.  Margot Robbie never looked so good.

Back to Batman.  There is a new Batmobile from the Animated Series that features lights and comes with a Bat Signal.  Not only that, Batman and Robin are actually included.

Inspired by the cover of Detective Comics #241, Batman dons the colors of the rainbow in this action figure 6-pack.  Each figure measures approximately 6 2/3-inches tall and will be out this October.

Diamond Select is coming out with a brand new Venom figure in August that comes with 4 interchangeable heads.  This is a classic Spidey villain that needs to be part of ever Spider-Man fan’s collection.  He will come with 16 points of articulation and stand about 8 inches tall.

We also got some images of some upcoming Captain America: Civil Wars toys.  If you missed our earlier post you can get caught here.  We also talked about an upcoming Captain America Marvel Legends wave with a Red Skull Onslaught BAF.  I was lucky enough to spot it on the pegs and it is doing very well on eBay.  I am finally glad to get a 6-inch Taskmaster.  He is the winner of this wave in my opinion.

Speaking of Marvel Legends, Amazing Spider-Man Wave 5 is in stock.  This is the wave with fan favorite, Spider Gwen.  Wave 1 of the 3 3/4-inch figures for 2016 also went up for pre-order.  Daredevil is also getting the retro treatment joining Thor, Cap, Spidey, and Deadpool.

New Harry Potter POPS! were put up for pre-order.  We recently lost Alan Rickman and his Severus Snape POP! went up as expected.  A flocked Chewbacca was the POP! in this month’s Funko’s Smuggler’s Bounty subscription box.  It’s fetching about $30 online.  A new Deadpool and Agent Carter POP! both sold out pre-ordering on Amazon.  These are Amazon exclusives to be released on Feb 15th.  Expect to see them back up for a few dollars more after that date as people look to cash in.

NECA teased a picture of their up coming Predator clan leader they are debuting at the Toy Fair.

We received our Sarah Connor and Ultimate Jason this week and they are bad to the bone.  We unboxed and reviewed Sarah and will be doing Jason soon.

Thats all for this week.  As always, be sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to keep up with all the toy news.
