Inside the Toy Box: Issue Twenty One

Inside the Toy Box sums up the past week’s toy news, top sellers, trends, pre-orders and any other great happenings in the world of toys and pop culture.

Big news is the reports that Mattel and Hasbro are in talks to join forces.  Right now, all it is are talks and I don’t see this happening without huge regulatory scrutiny.  It would be hard for the two largest toy companies to merge without forming a monopoly.

Lego, next biggest toy maker, had a few announcements of their own at the UK Toy Fair.  One was a new animated Star Wars series coming August similar to their two previous animated series The Yoda Chronicles and Droid Tales.  There was also news of new Lego sets for the show, The Eclipse Fighter (75145) and the Star Scavenger (75147).  There are also going to be Rogue One sets due out in October.  Check out the image below.  It’s Slave I so is our favorite bounty hunter going to be making an appearance?

Lego’s Minifigure Series 15 is out as well.  These are also popular with Lego fans for some reason.

Mezco Toyz 1:12 line added Batman and Superman from the upcoming movie this past week.  They are not due out until August but get your pre-orders in now.  They are a little pricey, but they are great figures to have in your collection.  Mezco Toyz is also getting into Marvel with Captain America, Daredevil, and Punisher.  They are all comic based but it seems they are trying to leverage current media offerings.

Barbie isn’t getting left out of the Batman vs Superman action and has the complete set up for pre-order with March delivery.  Barbie has a ton of collectors and these are already fetching good money online.

NECA showed a prototype of their BvS offering.  Standing in at 19-inches this is definitely going in my Bat collection.

They have a huge presence at the Toy Fair this week so we can expect plenty more reveals then.  One of those is the 40th Anniversary Rocky line.  I am sure we will get plenty more Predators and Aliens as well.  I forgot to mention last week that Scarface Predator is one of those.  They also revealed their new Weird Al figure headed to their 8-inch retro line.  You’ll have to wait until June but they promise it is the first of many.

We mentioned earlier all the Civil War stuff that went up.  The Marvel Legends wave was doing extremely well on eBay and Amazon, with Taskmaster going as high as $40.  The Amazing Spider-Man wave is on the shelves as well, with Spider Gwen being the obvious winner in that bunch.

If you missed the “Time” Loot Crate, you can now grab the Hover Board Replica.  There are also still a few days to get in on this month’s “Dead” Loot Crate.  This month has an exclusive Walking Dead figure from McFarlane Toys that you will want to have.  There is also an exclusive Deadpool item which I am interested in.  Speaking of Deadpool, this month’s Collector Corps is all about Deadpool.  I saw I was charged, so I am eagerly awaiting this one as well.

With The Walking Dead returning this week make sure to grab Series 9.  It looks like there is now a disembowled Dale.

Thats all for this week.  As always, be sure to follow us on Twitter and like us on Facebook to keep up with all the toy news.
